Chapter 8-I

đź’—Chaviđź’—

I woke up early, the morning sun streaming through my curtains, casting a warm glow across my room. Today was the second day of college, and I felt a mix of excitement and nervousness bubbling within me. After going through my morning routine—brushing my teeth, washing my face, and slipping into the shower—I finally decided on my outfit for the day. A blue skirt paired with a white top felt just right, giving off a fresh vibe while keeping it simple. I adorned myself with minimal gold jewelry—just enough to add a touch of elegance without overwhelming my look.

After getting dressed, I headed downstairs. The aroma of breakfast filled the air, making my stomach rumble. Once I finished, I offered a quick prayer, hoping for a smooth day ahead.

Stepping outside, I spotted Jhanvi’s car already waiting for me. We had decided to alternate driving each day to make things fair, so today it was her turn. I hopped into the back seat beside her, and as the driver started the car, the familiar chatter began.

“Did you think about him at all?” Jhanvi teased, a smirk playing on her lips.

"About whom?" I asked being confused. "That scary senior who helped us yesterday." She clarified.

I rolled my eyes. “No, I didn’t think about anyone!” But deep down, I felt a blush creeping up my cheeks.

“Sure, keep lying!” she laughed, nudging me playfully.

As we neared the college, I felt a rush of nervous energy. We finally arrived, and I took a deep breath as we stepped out of the car. We walked toward our classroom, the energy of the campus buzzing around us. Just as we were about to enter the building, Agastya appeared out of nowhere, blocking our path.

“Hi, ladies!” he greeted, his tone too cheerful for my liking.

Both Janvi and I were caught off guard, and I could see the irritation flash across Janvi's face.

“What is your problem, Agastya?” she snapped, her voice sharp.

He wore a sheepish smile. “Just concerned about you two, you know? Making sure your studies are going well and that you’re adjusting to the surroundings.”

“It’s just been one day,” Janvi shot back. “Why the hell are you so interested in us?”

Agastya's gaze locked onto Janvi’s, his expression suddenly serious. “I’m only interested in you, not in my little sister, Chavi.”

A mocking smile crept onto Janvi’s lips. “If Chavi is your sister, then I’m your sister too.”

I watched their exchange, confusion settling in. Agastya’s jaw clenched as he stepped closer to Janvi, his fist tightening. “I’ll make sure you take those words back very soon.”

Janvi stood her ground. “I’ll be waiting for that day.”

Agastya took a deep breath, closing his eyes momentarily as if controlling his anger. When he opened them again, he turned his gaze to me, a sweet smile replacing his earlier tension. “Chavi, if anything or anyone bothers you on campus or outside, just let me know. Your brother will handle it.”

Before I could respond, he walked away, leaving me slightly bewildered.

“Ugh, what a jerk!” Janvi exclaimed, shaking her head in irritation.

But as my confusion lingered, it was quickly replaced by a wave of surprise and fear. My heart raced when I noticed him—the senior I had seen before. He was sitting on the stairs, looking directly at me with an intense gaze that felt as if he could see right through me. His presence was overpowering, and I could feel my cheeks flushing red as I stared at him, caught between admiration and fear.

“Chavi, let’s go!” Jhanvi urged, clearly annoyed by the encounter.

I grabbed her hand tightly, still processing what was happening. “Can we just go?” I whispered, my voice shaky. Clearly not paying any attention to what she asked.

“Seriously, what’s wrong with you?” she asked, half-joking, half-serious.

I couldn’t answer. How could I explain that even in this intimidating situation, I found him undeniably attractive? There was something about his confident demeanor, his chiseled features, and the way he seemed to exude authority that drew me in.

“Let’s just get to class!” I urged, dragging her along, my heart racing in ways I didn’t fully understand.

We hurried away, but I couldn’t help but glance back one last time. He was still looking at me, and the moment our eyes met, my heart skipped a beat. I stood frozen on my spot. The intensity of his gaze made it feel like the world around us had vanished, leaving just the two of us in that fleeting moment.

“Chavi, what happened?” Janvi snapped me out of my daze. “Let’s go!”

“Ha” I said quickly, feeling flustered. I was not supposed to have eye contact with him twice, especially not like that. It was too intense.

As we walked toward our classroom, I could feel my face burning with embarrassment. Today was supposed to be just another day of college, but it felt like I had stepped into a whirlwind of confusion and emotions I didn’t quite understand. I needed to shake off these feelings.

But as we entered the classroom, I couldn’t help but wonder if this was just the beginning of something I wasn’t ready for.
